You Have Options Beyond Traditional Antidepressants

Depression can be especially frustrating when you have tried medications, therapy, or different treatment combinations and still do not feel like yourself.

SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray that works differently from traditional antidepressant medications and may be an option for certain adults with treatment-resistant depression.

At AmoreMedix, our goal is to make the process understandable, comfortable, and medically supported from your initial evaluation through ongoing treatment.

What Is SPRAVATO®?

SPRAVATO® contains esketamine and is administered as a nasal spray under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Unlike many traditional antidepressants that primarily target serotonin, norepinephrine, or dopamine pathways, esketamine acts primarily through the glutamate system.

SPRAVATO® is FDA approved for the treatment of treatment-resistant depression in adults, either as monotherapy or together with an oral antidepressant. It is also FDA approved, in conjunction with an oral antidepressant, for depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior.

Not everyone is an appropriate candidate. An AmoreMedix provider will review your medical history, current medications, previous depression treatments, and overall health to determine whether SPRAVATO® may be appropriate for you.

What Treatment at AmoreMedix Looks Like

1.
Initial Consultation

Your care begins with a comprehensive evaluation. We will discuss your symptoms, treatment history, current medications, medical history, and your goals for treatment.

2.
Insurance & Authorization

Our team will review your insurance benefits and, when applicable, work through the prior authorization process required by your insurance plan.

3.
Your Treatment Visit

SPRAVATO® is administered by you as a nasal spray while under medical supervision at our office.

Your healthcare team will monitor you throughout your visit, including appropriate vital signs and assessment for potential side effects.

4. Comfortable Observation

After receiving SPRAVATO®, you will remain at the clinic for at least two hours for monitoring. We want this portion of your visit to feel calm and comfortable.

Patients can relax while our clinical team remains available and monitors their response to treatment.

5.
Ongoing Care

Treatment frequency generally changes over time based on the recommended treatment schedule, your clinical response, tolerability, and your provider’s assessment.

We will continue to evaluate your symptoms and progress throughout treatment.

Your SPRAVATO® Treatment Schedule

For treatment-resistant depression, treatment typically begins with an induction phase involving more frequent appointments, followed by progressively less frequent treatments when clinically appropriate.

Your exact treatment plan will be determined by your healthcare provider based on your diagnosis, response, tolerability, and individual needs.

Is SPRAVATO® Right for Me?

SPRAVATO® may be considered for adults with treatment-resistant depression who have not experienced adequate improvement with previous antidepressant treatment. 3 Eligibility is determined through an individual clinical evaluation.

Certain medical conditions, medications, pregnancy considerations, blood pressure concerns, substance-use history, and other factors may affect whether SPRAVATO® is appropriate for you.

The first step is simply having a conversation with one of our providers.

Preparing for Treatment

Because SPRAVATO® can temporarily affect alertness, perception, coordination, and blood pressure, patients are monitored for at least two hours following administration.

You cannot drive yourself home following treatment. Patients should arrange transportation home and should not drive, operate machinery, or participate in activities requiring complete alertness until the following day after a restful night’s sleep.

Additional preparation instructions will be provided before your first treatment.

SPRAVATO® is covered by many commercial insurance plans and may also be covered by Medicare or Medicaid plans depending on eligibility, diagnosis, plan requirements, and medical necessity.

Coverage varies. Our team can help determine your benefits, review authorization requirements, and explain expected patient responsibility before treatment whenever possible.
